Dr. Brian Barczak
Brian Barczak, MD
Child & Adolescent Psychiatry Director
Dr. Barczak has been a vital part of the UBHS team since 2016, bringing a decade of leadership to his role as Medical Director for the Child and Adolescent Department. He is triple-board certified in General Psychiatry, Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, and Forensic Psychiatry.

Beyond the clinic, Dr. Barczak is deeply involved in statewide advocacy. He works closely with the DFCS and insurance panels, including Amerigroup and Wellcare, to develop initiatives that improve access to care for children throughout Georgia.

A graduate of Indiana University School of Medicine, Dr. Barczak is also an active researcher. He has been published in several peer-reviewed journals regarding his specialized experience working with troubled youth.
Dr. Douglas Laipple

Telehealth Director
With over three decades of clinical practice, Dr. Laipple brings extensive psychiatric expertise to UBHS’s telehealth programs. A decorated Vietnam veteran, he completed his medical training in 1981 and has dedicated his career to improving mental health access for diverse patient populations.

Dr. Laipple’s background spans military medicine, private practice, and hospital-based care. He spent four years as a psychiatrist at Eisenhower Army Medical Center, focusing on servicemen’s mental health, and later served as Team Psychiatrist for the Atlanta Braves. Today, he continues his mission of delivering high-quality care through virtual health platforms across multiple regional accounts.
Dr. Dewitt Alfred III
Dewitt Alfred III, MD
Medical Director
Dr. Dewitt Alfred, III is a Medical Director at UBHS. He earned his medical degree from Hahnemann University in Philadelphia and completed his psychiatric residency at Morehouse School of Medicine. Dr. Alfred specializes in treating anxiety, bipolar disorder, depression, schizophrenia, and addiction, with a specific clinical focus on how complex trauma impacts psychiatric conditions. Having served in both inpatient and outpatient settings, his broad clinical background and statewide hospital affiliations bring a wealth of expertise to the UBHS team.
Dr. Michael Burke
Michael Burke, MD
Adult & Geriatric Psychiatry Director
Dr. Burke has been a cornerstone of the UBHS team since 2012, serving as the Adult and Geriatric Medical Director. He is dual board-certified in General Psychiatry and Behavioral Medicine, with specialized expertise in psychotic and mood disorders, substance use treatment, and geriatric psychiatry including dementia care.

An experienced educator, Dr. Burke has held teaching positions at Duke and Emory Universities. He currently provides comprehensive psychiatric care across Georgia in diverse settings, including inpatient hospitals, outpatient clinics, community service boards, nursing homes, and adult group homes.

Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner | Telehealth & Senior Services
Brannon earned her Bachelor’s degree in Biology from Georgia College and State University in 2014 and her Master’s in Nursing through the Clinical Nurse Leadership Program at Augusta University in 2017. She then completed her Doctorate in Nursing Practice as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner at Augusta University in 2021. Her psychiatric training included rotations at East Central Regional Hospital, Psych Consultants, Community Health Care Systems Inc., Children’s Hospital of Georgia, and Aiken Regional Hospital.

Brannon has worked with pediatric, adult, and geriatric patients across outpatient settings such as mental health clinics, primary care, and pediatric clinics, as well as inpatient settings including the Emergency Department and state psychiatric facilities. Her experience includes treating depression, anxiety, panic disorder, ADHD, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, behavioral disorders, and developmental delay. She is currently a member of the UBHS telehealth and senior services team.
Elizabeth Hortman, PMH-C
Elizabeth Hortman, PMHNP
Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner | Community Health & Nursing Education
Elizabeth earned her Associate’s Degree in Nursing from Middle Georgia College in 2010, followed by her Bachelor’s and Master’s in Nursing from Western Governor’s University in 2016 and 2017. In 2021, she obtained an additional certification in adult nursing education from the National League of Nursing. She completed her post-graduate certification as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner in 2023.

Elizabeth brings more than 11 years of experience working with all populations in various settings, including women’s health, community health, pediatrics, and academia. She has served as an associate professor of nursing at Middle Georgia State University and remains on faculty at Western Governor’s University. She is a member of the American Nurses Association and the National League for Nursing.

Outside of work, Elizabeth is a wife and mother of four who enjoys reading, painting, and gardening in her free time.
Joshua Paulos, PA-C

Physician Assistant
Joshua joined UBHS in 2020. He is a physician assistant based in Augusta, Georgia, working with both telehealth sites and the private clinic in Atlanta. Joshua earned his background in Fine Arts from the University of Georgia before completing his Physician Assistant program at Augusta University in 2017.

Joshua brings over three years of dedicated experience in outpatient psychiatry. He has extensive experience treating patients dealing with anxiety, depression, mood disorders, PTSD, and ADHD across a range of adult populations.
Shron Stegall, PMHNP-BC
Kimberly Schon Stegall, PMHNP-BC
Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner
Kimberly is a psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner who joined UBHS in 2021. She began her nursing career in 2006 after earning her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Georgia Southern University. Her patient care experience spans multiple settings, including emergency, inpatient, outpatient, and public health.

She has seven years of specialized experience in mental health, working in both acute crisis stabilization and residential programs for adolescents. She provides comprehensive psychiatric care across the lifespan and is a member of the American Nurses Association and Sigma Theta Tau, the international honor society for nurses.

Outside of work, Kimberly is a mother and grandmother who enjoys traveling and spending time near the coast in South Georgia.

Mental Health Counselor
With clinical experience dating back to 1990, Vicki has provided outpatient therapy across community mental health centers and private practice settings. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice from the University of Georgia (1988) and later completed her Master’s in Mental Health Counseling at Barry University in Florida (1994).

Vicki is an EMDRIA-certified EMDR therapist and has completed advanced postgraduate training in trauma-informed care over the past four years. Her clinical expertise spans a wide range of diagnoses, including mood disorders, PTSD, schizophrenia, and dissociative disorders, serving both adolescents and adults.

In addition to trauma work, Vicki has extensive experience supporting veterans and the LGBTQ+ community, prioritizing a safe, affirming, and client-centered therapeutic environment.
Stacia Fritz, PA-C

Physician Assistant | Telehealth & Senior Services
Stacia earned her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Georgia Southern University in 2015 and her Master’s in Physician Assistant Studies from Augusta University in 2017, where she completed specialized psychiatric clinical training at the VA Medical Center. She brings dedicated experience in outpatient psychiatric care, serving pediatric, adult, and geriatric patients across the lifespan.

Her clinical practice focuses on comprehensive medication management and treatment for a wide range of conditions, including mood and anxiety disorders, ADHD, bipolar disorder, depression, panic disorder, and schizophrenia. Stacia has delivered care in diverse community settings, including group homes and long-term care facilities throughout the Augusta region. She currently provides psychiatric services through UBHS’s telehealth and senior care programs.

Outside of the clinic, Stacia enjoys teaching dance lessons, taking outdoor walks, relaxing at the lake, and spending time with her husband and daughter.
Vandeller Davis, PMHNP-BC, AGPCNP
Vandeler Davis, NP
Adult Gerontology Nurse Practitioner | Internal Medicine & Long-Term Psychiatric Care
Vandeler (Van) Davis is an adult-gerontology nurse practitioner and psychiatric practitioner specializing in both internal medicine and long-term mental health care. She is currently completing her psychiatric certification. Prior to joining UBHS, she worked at Reliance Home Physician Services.

Van earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing at Georgia College and State University and her Master of Science in Nursing at Walden University in Baltimore, MD. Since joining UBHS four years ago, she has worked with skilled nursing facilities, primary care practice locations, and clinic patients. She believes in a collaborative approach with patients to empower them in managing their healthcare and mental health treatment.
